KayDrill launches the DMT Series high-flow portable compressors

Tunnel air demand follows a particular pattern: drilling, shotcreting and mucking alternate, so demand keeps rising and falling. Conventional fixed-speed compressors can only unload and idle at low demand while the meter keeps running, and in an enclosed cavern their noise echoes around the workplace. To address this, KayDrill has launched the DMT Series of high-flow portable compressors, developed for tunnelling, municipal pipe networks and plant air.
Key figures
- Air flow: 36–66 m³/min, enough for several tunnel processes at once;
- Pressure: 7–8 bar, matched to low-pressure, high-flow work such as shotcrete and rock bolting;
- Drive: permanent-magnet synchronous motor with variable-speed drive, stepless across the range.
Variable-speed drive: as much air as you use
The DMT combines a high-efficiency four-pole permanent-magnet motor with a variable-speed drive. Output follows the actual demand curve, matching the alternating demand of drilling, shotcreting and mucking and eliminating the idle running of fixed-speed units — with the biggest savings on long continuous supply.
Low vibration and noise for a better tunnel environment
Tunnels are enclosed and echo strongly, so the unit uses a multi-layer acoustic canopy and isolation mounts that reduce noise step by step from the airend to the housing — improving conditions underground and helping meet strict limits in municipal tunnels and plants.
Built for harsh, continuous duty
Tunnels are humid, dusty and see wide temperature swings, with long supply cables and unstable voltage. The DMT has upgraded electrical protection, cooling margin and filtration to resist damp, dust and temperature extremes over long, intensive operation. Where grid power is available it runs quieter, uses less energy per unit of air and has longer service intervals than diesel units, lowering whole-life operating cost.
Dedicated controller and smart diagnostic panel
A dedicated compressor controller reads pressure and humidity in real time, loads and unloads to the actual demand and protects instantly against over-pressure, over-temperature and phase faults. The integrated panel shows status and key parameters at a glance, with self-diagnosis, plain fault codes, service reminders and run history — so crews can troubleshoot without specialist experience, reducing maintenance cost and downtime underground.
Where the DMT fits
- Tunnelling: alternating drilling, shotcreting and mucking;
- Tunnel lining and slope shotcrete: low pressure, high flow, output following the spraying rhythm;
- Underground mine stopes: several faces drawing air, with high demands on electrical protection and ventilation;
- Municipal networks and plant air: fixed or semi-fixed sites sensitive to noise and energy use.
The DMT is fully electric and needs power on site; for sites without grid power, choose an M Series diesel unit.
