Background
Blasting hull blocks before painting is a key shipbuilding step that needs long hours of steady, high-flow air. In a yard with grid power, blasting with diesel units means burning extra money every day.
Solution
Electric units cut running cost and noise, an outdoor-grade anti-corrosion finish copes with salt air, and total air was sized from the number of nozzles in use with a margin.
Results
Pressure stays steady with several nozzles running and the finish is more consistent; cost per cubic metre of air is much lower than the previous diesel solution.
